Why not use money? How many half dollars are there in $3?

If you go to the Resource Room at Math Central and search in the Keyword field for fraction you will find a resource titled Understanding Fractions that uses pattern blocks to work with fractions. Look at the section "Lesson 5- Division of Fractions".
