My name is Jennifer and I am a home schooled high school student. I would like some help with equations and inequalities. My first inequality is 3p-6>21 and 3q+11+8q>99.

Hi Jennifer

Use the same type of steps as you would to solve an equation except remember to reverse the inequality sign if you multiply or divide by a negative number.

For example, with the first inequality above,

3p -6 > 21
    add 6 to both sides
3p -6 +6 > 21 +6 (the inequality is not changed by this)
3p > 27
    divide both sides by 3
p > 9

Now try the second inequality. I got q > 8.

cheers,
Paul
