Hi Greg,

This is a trick example of the type I first learned from John Conway. The process from one line to the next is NOT arithmatic in the usual sense - it is verbal.

Read out the first line, carefully: "one three".
Write that in numbers as the second line: 13.

Now read the second line " one one one three"

Write that as the third line: 1113.

Continue like this.
