Question:
what is the answer for this problem?

Three whole numbers , when added two at a time,yield the sums 75, 111, and 128.

Find the smallest of these three whole #'s.

Hi Walter,

If the three numbers are a, b and c where a is the smallest and c is the largest. The sum of the smaller two is 75 and the sum of the larger two is 128. That is

a + b =  75
a + c = 111
b + c = 128

The other fact to observe here that

314 = 75 + 111 + 128 = 2a + 2b + 2c,

so

157 = a + b + c

I think you can finish it now.

Cheers,
Penny
