Problem
  You have 5 red tiles and 5 yellow tiles. You can place some or all of the tiles in a bag. How many different ways can this be done so that it is more likely to draw a red than a yellow?
Manipulative
  Materials: color tiles, paper bag

  • Place 3 red and 3 green tiles in a bag.
  • Which of the following would make it more likely to draw green?
 
  • add 1 red
  • add 2 blue
  • add 1 green
  • remove 2 red and one green
  • Place 5 red and 4 green tiles in a bag.
  • Which of the following would increase your chance of drawing a red?
 
  • remove a green
  • add 1 red and 1 green
  • remove 1 red
  • add 2 yellow
  • Write a sentence to describe how you know whether or not you are increasing your chance of drawing red.
Game
  Materials: two blank dice, bingo chips

  • Create two dice like the ones shown.
  • On your turn, select a die and roll it. Take as many chips as the value rolled.
  • Continue until you reach or pass 20. If you go over 20, on your next turn take away from your set as many chips as the value rolled.
  • Players continue adding or removing according to their rolls until one player hits 20 exactly. This player is the winner.
Adaptations:
  • Add other die.
