i have an arc 55 inches wide, 12 inches high at the centerline of the arc. how can i determine the diameter of the circle that would correspond to the arc.

Recently I answered a similar question for Daryl. Your dimensions are not the same as his but otherwise the problems are identical. Using your dimensions and the same notation as I used for him I get the equation
( 55/2)2 + (r - 12)2 = r2
Solving for r gives r = 37.51 inches or a diameter of 75 inches.
