Quandaries and Queries

I am trying to build a 6ft hexagon around a tree in my front yard. I have asked everyone how do I figure the size of each side. I now have several calculations and many theories but still do not know how much lumber and at what angel to cut and what length. I am simply a senior citizen just trying to create something different in my yard.

thank you for your help in this matter.

Hi Ray,

We had a very similar question a while ago and Penny went through the calculations and showed that the length of the side is the width divided by the square root of 3. (By the width I mean the distance from the middle of one side directly across to the middle of the other. If that is the 6 feet in your hexagon then the length of the side is

 6/√3 = 3.46 feet

Penny also calculated the angles in her response to another question.
