Question from Russ:

I would like to know how much fill material I would need to fill an old swimming pool. The pool is 18' wide x 36' long and is 4' to 10' deep.

Hi Russ,

I answered a similar question from Kyla a while ago. Her measurements were in metres but the shape of the pool is similar. Using the same technique as I used for her pool the volume of your pool is

(10 + 4)/2 × 36 × 18 = 4536 cubic feet.

I expect that you order fill material by the cubic yard and there are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard so the volume of fill you need is

4536/27 = 168 cubic yards.

I hope this helps,
Penny
