Question from martine, a parent:

how many different combinations can be made from numbers 1 to 20 using them only once in a six number scale

Martine,

It depends whether order is important or not. For example are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 2, 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 different? If they are and hence order is important mathematicians call them permutations and you can calculate how many there are using my response to a similar question from David. If order is not important then mathematicians call them combinations and you can calculate how many there are using my response to a similar question from Marcus.

Write back if you need further assistance,
Penny
