Question from Angelia, a parent:

Write a rule for the sequence. Then, find the unknown term. 1 3/8, 1 ¾, 2 1/8, _______, 2 7/8 Think: The pattern is increasing. Add 1/6 to find the next term. Rule: _______________

Hi Angelia,

Each of the terms in your sequence is expressed as a mixed number. I would convert them all to improper fractions. This will give you three fractions with denominator 8 and one with denominator of 4. Convert this latter fraction to an equivalent fraction with denominator 8. Look at the numerators of the fractions. Do you see a pattern?

Write back if you need more help,
Penny
