How do I determine the degree of polynomials? I've searched this on sites but they are
all so confusing! Is there a simple explanation or way to find what the degree is? Some
examples are: 6x^4 10x^2yz^5 and 3m^2n^7-10m^8. I also have to say that I am
under the impression that this symbol ^ means the number after it is an exponent.

My wife presented me with a query which may have a simple answer, but one that I can’t deduce or explain.
Take the string of numbers, n=1,2,3,4,5…
It seems that n(2n-1) = Sum((1…..(2n-1))
e.g. for n=5, both 5 x 9 and Sum(1….9) equal 45, and so on for other values of n.
Could you please provide an explanation? Does it have an underlying reason and a name?

If percentages have no units, why are some percentages called rates, as in interest rate, or
perhaps a tax rate of 7% as an example? A rate has units of different quantities.

Both batteries died in my scientific calculator and I have lost my formula for the heigth of the curvature of the earth between two points on the surface. I used degrees and miles. I only had to enter the distance between the two points on the surface and the formula gave me the hieght the earth raised between the two points.
