Question from Jeanne:

WHAT IS THE SQUARE FOOTAGE OF A 14 X 14 OCTAGON?

Hi Jeanne,

I am not sure what dimension of your octagon is 14 feet. Look at my response to a Lewis' question. If the distance d in the diagram is 14 feet then the side length s is related to d by

d = (1 + √2) s

so

s = d/(1 + √2)

Once you know the side length you can find the area of the octagon using the expression in Stephen's response to Dana.(Stephen uses the letter a for the side length and n for the number of sides which in your case is 8.)
