Hi Kari, If you look here you will see the answer I gave to this question a few years ago. I do however want to add some further references. I found these by going to the Quandaries and Queries page and searching for the phrase pi real life. Here is someone who needed to find the volume of fuel in a tanker truck. A question from Stephanie who is making a "claw setting" for a gemstone, Arnold who is making a metal shroud for an outdoor fireplace, Don who wants to find the volume of a gravel pile, and Nicole who wants to know the volume of Mitchell Domes in Milwaukee.
