Multiples 2012-05-28
From Kenneth:
If I understand correctly , a multiple is a product of two numbers. For example some of the multiples of 6 are 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, etc. I just multiplied 6 by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

Are the multiples of a fraction, for example, 2/3, determined in the same way? Are they 2/3, 4/3, 6/3, 8/3, 10/3, etc., or are they instead, 2/3, 4/6, 6/9, 8/12, 10/15, etc.?

Or do fractions have no multiples?

6/49 2012-05-25
From Mark:
Can you explain why the lotto 6/49 (a lottery of 49 numbers and 6 slots) is a combination and not a permutation?

It seems to me that it would a permutation given that the numbers are written in numeric "order" when you look them up in the newspaper.

I realize that 49P6 is orders of magnitude larger than 49C6. But I am confused about the reasoning behind it.
